What We Do
Hispanic Ministry
In Hispanic ministry one usually experiences people of deep faith and powerful trust in God. There is a wonderful sense of community and a strong spirit of generosity. Family is important and there is kindness
toward and respect for the Church ... we are not perfect; but we are good.
The “nuts and bolts” of Hispanic ministry in a number of our parishes involves what is common in any parish: celebration of the Eucharist, Faith Formation and the celebration of the Sacraments, Youth ministry involving human growth and Faith Formation, visitation of the sick All this is done in collaboration with our Church Community and as a team.
However because our Hispanic ministry involves an immigrant community (for the most part), there are aspects of ministry that go beyond the “nuts and bolts.” One aspect is Advocacy for Immigrants; collaborating with other organizations that do advocacy to inform our people of their rights and to promote their rights; connecting with those
groups who lobby the Federal Government for just and compassionate immigration laws.
Another aspect is the celebration of religious / cultural feasts such as
Día de los Muertos (remembrance of our dead), Our Lady of Guadalupe, Las Posadas (the journey of Joseph and Mary searching for room at the inn) in preparation for Christmas, Quinceañeras (thanksgiving by parents for the gifts of the lives of their daughters and a blessing for the girls as they celebrate their 15th birthdays).
